Tanya and Geovanny

This project aims to promote reading and writing for children, teachers and parents in the rural communities of Mogoto, Punguloma, San Fernando, and Pasa, about 2 hours outside of Quito. Their literacy rate is approximately 55% and roughly half the adults are illiterate. Over a 6 month period, there were a series of visits by project staff to 4 schools. the visits are divided into stages of oral narration, out loud reading and creative writing. There were also workshops with parents and teachers. The project is overseen by Girandula.

Punguloma May 2021. Tanya and Geovanny visit the indigenous communities regularly, on weekly bases, one day each, and they provide the children with books and enrichment activities. This is a blessing for these children, especially during these times of hardship. Their visit is expected and the children are disappointed if they ever miss a day.

This video was dedicated to the memory of Pam Howard and concludes with the following tribute in Spanish and English:
